Attività scientifica in evidenza:
📋 Il decadimento del mesone $J/\psi$ in una coppia di pioni, $J/\psi \to \pi^+ \pi^-$, viene considerato, nella letteratura scientifica, come un decadimento che procede per via puramente elettromagnetica (EM), essendo un decadimento che viola la G-parità. Nonostante il contributo puramente forte al decadimento sia soppresso, abbiamo mostrato che lo stesso non vale per il contributo misto forte-EM. Tramite un modello fenomenologico, basato sulla regola di Cutkosky, abbiamo calcolato un limite inferiore per il contributo misto al branching ratio totale, mostrando che quest’ultimo non può essere considerato trascurabile rispetto a quello puramente EM. I risultati sono stati pubblicati sulla rivista Physical Review C.[Phys. Rev. C 98 (2018) no.4, 045210]
📋 Per quanto concerne i decadimenti del mesone $J/\psi$ in una coppia barione-antibarione di spin 1/2, tramite un modello basato su una Lagrangiana forte efficace con termini di rottura di simmetria di SU(3), abbiamo separato, per la prima volta, i contributi forte, EM e misto forte-EM all’ampiezza, e quindi al branching ratio totale, per ciascuna coppia di barioni nello stato finale. Abbiamo mostrato che all'energia corrispondente alla massa del mesone $J/\psi$, con $\sqrt{q^2} \simeq 3.1$ GeV, non si è in completo regime di QCD perturbativa (pQCD) calcolando il rapporto tra le ampiezze forte e mista, risultato compatibile con l’ipotesi di realtà, ma diverso, in modulo, da quello previsto dalla pQCD. In aggiunta abbiamo calcolato la fase relativa forte-EM, che risulta compatibile con l’ipotesi di ortogonalità tra le due ampiezze. I risultati sono stati pubblicati sulla rivista Physics Letters B.

📋 I decadimenti dei mesoni $J/\psi$ e $\psi(2S)$ negli iperoni $\Lambda \overline \Lambda$ e $\Sigma^0 \overline{\Sigma}{}^0$, presentano una particolare distribuzione angolare, infatti il decadimento $J/\psi \to \Sigma^0 \overline \Sigma{}^0$ ha un parametro di polarizzazione $\alpha$ negativo. Abbiamo fornito una spiegazione per questo fenomeno usando un modello efficace basato su una Lagrangiana di SU(3), con termini di rottura di simmetria dovuti a effetti elettromagnetici e alla differenza di massa dei quark. In particolare abbiamo mostrato che questi due effetti giocano un ruolo diverso nella dinamica dei decadimenti dei mesoni $J/\psi$ e $\psi(2S)$. I risultati sono stati pubblicati sulla rivista Chinese Physics C.

📋 Come collaborazione scientifica BESIII, basata sull’acceleratore BEPCII presso l’Istituto di Fisica delle Alte Energie (IHEP) a Pechino (Cina) sono stati raggiunti notevoli risultati. Tra i più recenti, nel febbraio 2019, abbiamo finito di accumulare un campione di 10 miliardi di eventi $J/\psi$ che rappresenta il numero più elevato di eventi $J/\psi$ a disposizione in tutto il mondo. Nel 2019, usando circa 1.3 miliardi dei 10 a disposizione, abbiamo osservato per la prima volta la polarizzazione dei barioni nei decadimenti del mesone $J/\psi$, studiando il processo $e^+ e^- \to J/\psi \to \Lambda \overline \Lambda$. Grazie ai successivi decadimenti deboli degli iperoni $\Lambda$ e $\overline \Lambda$ prodotti è stato possibile determinare con alta precisione la polarizzazione e alcuni parametri nei decadimenti degli iperoni. Il risultato di BESIII ha corretto di circa il 17% il valore usato in molti esperimenti per decenni. I risultati sono stati pubblicati sulla rivista Nature Physics.

📋 Assumendo la conservazione dell'isospin, le ampiezze in approssimazione di Born del decadimento $\psi \to \Lambda \overline \Sigma{}^0 + \mbox{c.c.}$, dove $\psi$ è un charmonio vettore, e del processo $e^+e^- \to \Lambda \overline \Sigma{}^0 + \mbox{c.c.}$ alla massa $\psi$, sono parametrizzati dallo stesso accoppiamento elettromagnetico. Ne consegue che dal modulo di un tale accoppiamento si possono estrarre i dati sulle due osservabili: il branching ratio di decadimento e la sezione d'urto di annichilazione. Considerando i primi due vettori charmonia, $J/\psi$ e $\psi(2S)$, otteniamo che, soprattutto nel caso di $\psi(2S)$, vi è una sostanziale discrepanza tra i valori del modulo dello stesso accoppiamento elettromagnetico estratti dal branching ratio e dalla sezione d’urto. Proponiamo, come possibile spiegazione di tale disaccordo, la presenza nell'ampiezza di decadimento di un contributo di violazione di isospin guidato da un meccanismo basato su stati intermedi fisici (on-shell) che, per loro stessa natura, dovrebbero essere più presenti nel decadimento $\psi(2S)$ che in quello del mesone $J/\psi$. 📋 Usando i dati disponibili dalla collaborazione BESIII e dal PDG abbiamo calcolato, per la prima volta, le ampiezze forte, elettromagnetica e mista forte-EM dei decadimenti del mesone $\psi(2S)$ in coppie barione-antibarione, usando un modello basato su una Lagrangiana efficace. Abbiamo mostrato che alla massa del mesone $\psi(2S)$ il regime di QCD non è completamente perturbativo, come si può dedurre dal valore dei rapporti tra le ampiezze forte e mista forte-EM, in modo simile al mesone $J/\psi$. Analizzando i dati a disposizione si osserva un comportamento diverso del mesone $\psi(2S)$ rispetto al mesone $J/\psi$ per quanto riguarda le ampiezze miste forti-EM.

📋 Abbiamo esplorato la possibilità di calcolare i fattori di forma elettromagnetici dei nucleoni nella regione time-like mediante la continuazione analitica delle loro espressioni space-like, ottenute nell'ambito di un modello generico di nucleoni. Abbiamo sviluppato una procedura per risolvere analiticamente le trasformate di Fourier della corrente elettromagnetica dei nucleoni e, quindi, ottenere i fattori di forma definiti in tutte le regioni cinematiche e che soddisfano i requisiti dei principi primi di analiticità e unitarietà. I risultati ottenuti nel caso particolare del modello Skyrme vengono discussi e confrontati con i dati, sia in regione space-like che time-like.

📋 La struttura dei barioni e quindi anche quella del barione $\Lambda$ può essere studiata grazie a grandezze fondamentali chiamate fattori di forma. Sono grandezze matematiche legate alle quadricorrenti barioniche e contengono tutte le informazioni sulla loro dinamica. Per quanto riguarda il vertice $\Lambda \overline \Lambda \gamma$, ci sono due fattori di forma fondamentali: quello elettrico e quello magnetico, $G_E$ e $G_M$, che rappresentano, nel sistema di riferimento di Breit dove non c'è scambio di energia, la trasformata di Fourier delle distribuzioni spaziali di carica elettrica e momento magnetico dei barioni $\Lambda$. Lo studio del loro rapporto rappresenta un punto cruciale, poiché la fase relativa tra i fattori di forma elettrico e magnetico dei barioni, ovvero arg $(G_E/G_M)$, è strettamente correlata alla loro polarizzazione. Analizziamo, utilizzando un approccio dispersivo, i dati attuali sul rapporto $G_E/G_M$ e grazie ad alcuni vincoli teorici otteniamo un potente strumento per la determinazione del suo piano fisico di Riemann, il cui ambito è limitato solo dalla scarsa quantità di dati sperimentali attualmente a disposizione.

📋 L'esperimento BESIII, basato sul collisore BEPCII dell'IHEP di Pechino, in Cina, è in grado di misurare i fattori di forma dei nucleoni con una precisione senza precedenti. Riportiamo i risultati recenti raggiunti dalla collaborazione BESIII riguardanti i fattori di forma time-like dei nucleoni e la produzione di coppie di iperoni. Nello specifico, si delineano i risultati ottenuti dallo studio del processo $e^+e^- \to p \overline p$, quelle del processo $e^+e ^- \to n \overline n$ e lo studio della polarizzazione $\Sigma$ relativa al processo $e^+e^- \to J/\psi \to \Sigma^+\overline \Sigma{}^- $.
